Headsets cause hearing loss?

The gaming manuals issue a warning that permanent hearing loss may occur if headsets are used at high volume, advising to set the volume to a 'safe level'. I like to play games at higher volume with earphones at night, anything lower just doesn't sound as immersive. Guns don't sound as satisfying for instance at low volumes.

Apparently, increasingly loud audio may sound normal over time but can actually be damaging to our hearing. This can cause ringing, discomfort and muffled speech which is an indicator for hearing loss.

This is obviously concerning as many of us use a headset, especially at night when there's neighbours around our apartment. It begs the question, what is 'safe' volume exactly, I'm assuming its about a quarter volume level which makes the game sound piss weak tbh :whatfeels: .

this isn't new to me, i knew this for years. doesn't bother me I think I came out the womb with a headset on

the only safe volume is max volume

Also, who the fuck is gonna listen to music on piss weak low volume through their earphones?. No one listens to music on safe low volumes period, this applies to games.

Do you have it on high volumes? My volume levels are around 75%, anything less just feels weak to me and not as immersive, but this risk is obviously concerning as I'd like to at least preserve my hearing until I'm an old man.

About 65-75% I would say. I control the volume on my headset on the headset it self so it doesn't really say exact levels. I'm not worried about preserving hearing i don't plan to live to be a old man

I don't know if the shit i hear is loud or not. I would prefer to keep my hearing intact.

Open-back headphones usually won't cause hear loss only closed-back can do that with usual volumes, as open back leaks a lot of audio. Anyway i never put them at 100% otherwise i will go deaf and my neighbours would hear everything.

I do i'm usually are at 30-50% of max volume. More than that is too much.

however i have them at +12db

when compared to default so i dunno how loud it's in reality

Playing loud noises causes hearing loss

And hair loss too

% of volume doesnt matter

Some audio files can be multiple times louder because of digital compression, amps can push 10 miliwatts or 100 watts.

You need a decibel meter to check how loud it is and try to keep it around 80db

As long as it isn't extremely loud consistently then nothing will happen

Yes, your ears will rupture the second you put on headphones

I just use my speakers.

Many replies seem to assume that volume level on the device you're playing the audio is the only thing that matters, which is not the case.

There are many variables: the device where you're playing the audio, headphones, audio source... Furthermore, there can be many different volume levels: device, audio software, headphones...

As far as I know, the only way to make sure you don't get hearing loss and your sound levels are safe is to check how loud your headphones are with a decibel meter.

Gunshots, impact hits and drum beats have high decibels and could punch through your eardrums. I had a noise cancelling headset but it barely works, I can still hear niggers laughing outside.

My dad hurt my hearing by playing tv on insane volume on purpose. He was such an evil bastard.
