That wasn't his only error. He also falsely concluded that man's natural state is to be out in nature. He was very bright - dangerously intelligent - but the extent of his understanding of the human condition and human nature were limited.
He was the hero we don't deserve. His analysis of modern society was spot on.

Read the book farmer boy. Before the Industrial Revolution EVERY single family was farmers. The man had to wake up at 5am to stoke a wood stove furnace. The wife would wake up shortly after to make breakfast. During the day the wife would watch over the kids, cook, clean, and do laundry. The man would cut wood, feed livestock, butcher meat, plow dirt, harvest crops.
There was a dependence. The woman stayed in her place and served the man. The man ran a homestead and provided food and shelter.
Now we’re just rats on a wheel. Men and women, with no dependence on one another. It killed the human psyche
