Ngl, I just read the abstract. They conclude that they can't explain the preference drop off point after the 90th percentile, and are not sure if the reasons are biological or psycho-social.
Well, it's psycho-social. Exceptionally high IQ individuals simply cannot relate to the average person. It's rarely a matter of personality or shared interests, however. It has to do with the quality of communication. Speaking is simply vocalizing your thoughts. Unless you have a condition like Tourette syndrome. What you talk about and how precisely you're able to communicate your thoughts are a reflection of how you think and how your brain operates.
If you put a 150 IQ individual in a room with a 100 IQ individual, the difference is staggering in how effectively the high IQ individual is able to convey complex thoughts and ideas to the average person. In return the average person really has nowhere to go with it, except maybe some comedic quip or pseudo-philosophical platitude. This is why when you introduce a dumb person into an intelligent conversation, they shut themselves out, because they have little to contribute. Then they go back to playing on their phone.
The effect is astronomical when you put a 200 IQ person with the 100 IQ one. The difference between 200 and 100 IQ is greater than the difference between 100 IQ and a chimpanzee...

There are people on earth so intelligent that the average person can relate more to a chimp than they can to them. They may as well be a different species.
The effect seems to taper off around 160. Anything a 200 IQ individual can articulate a 160 IQ individual should in theory interpret and understand, though this is still unsettled. It's hard to be sure, since there are few immensely profound and complex ideas at that level which demand such level of cognition.
