A few times, I had some "friends" do this to me: Telling me they weren't doing anything, were busy, etc. only for me to later find out they went off & did something without me.

The way I see it, is that was them kind of mocking you in a way: They signaled to you in person that you could come, yet they ultimately didn't give you the actual indicator you were welcome to join them.
