I have a serious question:

Since Juneteenth was always a regional holiday (Texas and nearby areas), were Black Americans in places like Detroit or Compton or Roxbury, Boston even aware of its existence until recently? Like, were blackfolks nationwide celebrating Juneteenth even if they weren't from Texas and living nowhere near Texas?

I think back to all the stuff from my childhood about MLK Day, Black History Month, Kwanza. I don't recall ever hearing about Juneteenth until these past recent years. Don't remember any of the black kids I went to school with ever mentioning a Juneteenth. How prevalent was its celebration among blackfolk nationwide prior to recently?

Juneteenth doesn't bother me, it just seems like a holiday that came out of nowhere. It's not like for decades people were talking about Juneteenth and petitioning for it's nationalization. It seemingly came up out of the blue. I'm not opposed to its existence, just find it odd how quickly its nationalization was spearheaded, when 10 years earlier most Americans outside of Texas (including tons of blackfolks) had never even heard of it.

I heard of it a few years ago. No I'm not from TX.

Honestly the reason it's become popular now is entirely subversive. Anytime something becomes popular out of nowhere there's an agenda behind it. And it's likely by Jews and caucuskikes. Black ppl don't have the institutional power to force anything popular overnight like that.
