Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek as if I asked for your opinion fuckface

How do they not realize the importance of facial aesthetics? Or of not being a morbidly obese hamplanet? I swear these people use "muh gainz" as an excuse to gorge themselves on cheesecake and hamburgers. Francisco Lachowski and Jeremy Meeks would be fucking fired if they bloated up to 20% bf.

It’s as easy as that br0

You should respond with something snarky on the spot.

You should only bulk if you do weightlifting as serious sport and go to tournaments and shit, otherwise you will look like over compensating moron, especially if you are short.
Lean>bulky.

Honestly dunno what to say. They seem to be in agreement that dieting without a pot belly will burn off all your muscle. I'm outnumbered.

Call them all low iq and explain the process of fat burning to them.

Never talk about weightloss/training with normans or family, those people don't want you to succeed. Just do your thing and ignore others.

These are normies we're talking about. They don't respond to reason.

Yeah, I learned that a while ago. Crabs in a bucket mentality.

You need to be sub 15% bf to bulk safely or you'll just bloatmax and become a giant tub of lard.

They didn't understand that apparently. Those types need things spelled out to them.

My goal right now is to get to 10% or less before bulking.

"Durr durr you'll look like shit at 10%" yeah, no shit, but at least I won't have to waddle everywhere I go or take an inhaler every time I climb up a flight of stairs.

That's pushing it pretty hard. Also it depends on what body comp you are to begin with.

I would go down to 12-13% by calipers then start bulking. ie. Once you can see some basic ab definition you're okay to bulk.

Going down to 10% is hard for anyone. Ie. It gets harder <12% and you might burn more muscle along the way to get to 10% or become super tiny by the time you get there.

If you're bigger to start then maybe you can afford it since you won't look emaciated. No point being Auchwitz mode.

I'm using the Navy tape test to guess my body fat. Though tbh I'm not too hung up on the percentages. If I start looking emaciated or sickly, I'll stop cutting even if the tape test puts me above 10%. I started this fairly aggressive (~1000 calorie deficit) cut last Monday and already look and feel better; will do another tape test this Saturday.

I'm not terribly muscular, but i have a wide frame. Pretty nasty tendency to store fat in the flanks and lower back.

This is the best body fat estimation guideline I've seen online:

You want to have about this much ab definition or at least close to this before bulking:

If you bulk any fatter than that you just get massively fat and gross looking.

My bf distribution is a bit weird atm because I had post-weightloss surgery a month ago and it wasn't exactly top-of-the-line. But I would guess I'm in the 13-16% category according to this guide.

The 8-10% category is ideal to me and I would be more than happy to start bulking from there. Whether that would be realistic or not is something else.

It's not likely realistic unless you can burn fat exceptionally well. 8-10% should be your FINAL GOAL and will take a lot of work to get to. You don't aim for 8-10% until you already have enough muscle mass that you don't mind losing a few pounds of it during that final cut.

That's how most people do it anyway. You'll be wasting time and muscle trying to get that low up front and as soon as you start bulking you'll lose all that definition and feel like you wasted the time even more.

So I should be going for 10% at least rather than at most. Like the 10-12% range. Is that right?

Yeah. Once you hit 12% or so you're good to start bulking. Once you are clearly above 15-16% you start cutting again. And then once you have adequate mass overall, then you do your final cut as low as you can mange to go to try to look "ripped".

You can't maintain a "ripped" condition while bulking unless you have perfect genetics, so why put in all that work just to ruin it during your bulk? Makes no sense.

Alright, thanks. I underestimated just how much muscle gets burned dieting down to sub 10% levels. Would still like to start on the leaner side so I have a wider buffer. It probably won't take me that long to get to the 10-12% range on a 1000 calorie deficit.
