Always do it for yourself first and foremost. It's a great cope though, and it will give you a reason to keep going.
Other than Zakk Wylde are there any actual Chad guitarists that are ACTUALLY GOOD? Most rock bands where the guitarists have amazing skill are average or even ugly. The chad musicians are usually average skill at best and got where they are because of their looks.

If you're still in high school, learn it as soon as possible and invite yourself to parties and play in a corner.

If you're in your early 20s still learn it. Travel and play your guitar in hostels/guesthouses.

I gave up after 6 months
No guitar for our faces, but it can be a good cope to keep you entertained.
