Most of the studies I've read are directly related to depression and anxiety and how the symptoms get significantly better with exercise. I'm not saying it will literally cure depression but it will certainly make the symptoms more manageable than if you never exercised at all.

It makes sense if you think about it though. A healthy brain is a part of a healthy body and working out makes you healthier. Even things like gut health and intestinal health effect how your brain works and how well it develops when you are growing up. The more you exercise, the healthier your body is which in turn is going to help your brain.

If you looked at the brain scans of a man who lived an unhealthy debaucherous life and a man who live a healthy orderly life, the first guy lived an objectively more pleasurable life, he was objectively more happy than the last guy, what you are now focusing on is subjective happiness, which relates less to dopamine release and more to meeting societal standards
