I'm not going homeless rn, but I'm thinking about willingly going homeless for how expensive the rent is here.
When I first got here, I assumed my rent would by paid by the jobcentre/dwp.
The rent being £625, while I had to pay £100, so I actually had some money left over to buy food, essentials and pay my debts.
So rn, I'm getting £504, twice a month.
Well recently, I was told by the property manager that the landlord has not been receiving the £625, but he has been receiving £100 from me.
After I spoke to the jobcentre and my probation officer about this, it turns out that I need to pay £312, twice a month and that £100 top up to cover that £725.
If I split that in half and pay £362, that'll leave me with £142 for one half of the month.
That may sound OK to live off of, but prices for goods and essentials are going up.
And these debts I have to pay off take a big bite out of my finances.
As much as being homeless in a tent had its issues, at least I had some money for myself and not paying nearly £1000 for a small room in a sharehouse.
