If you want to get all technical you'd have to specify what minimum ratio of utility-per-dollar is acceptable for it to not be "waste". And obviously as wealth increases that ratio goes down considerably. In other words, getting even a little bit of enjoyment from that might be worth the money if money is almost no object.
