Germancels, how do you feel about Prussia as a German state?

German culture, values and identity all stem from Prussia. Without Prussia there would be no Germany.

And no I think if Austria had unified Germany we would've been a multi-ethnic shithole. I mean you had Austrians migrating to Germany and lying about their ethnic roots in order to escape that place. Hitler was one of them.

Yes, I also do not believe that the Austrians could unite Germany, since their empire was multinational, and the Germans themselves in the Habsburg Empire were about 25-30% of the total population. In fact, the Habsburgs valued their possessions in other words by nations: the Hungarian crown, the Bohemian crown and other possessions, which they received over many centuries mainly through profitable marriages.

There really couldn't have been any other unifier besides Prussia. Austria probably could not have expanded into the Protestant northern states in the same way Prussia expanded into the Catholic southern states (mostly due to Bismarck's genius)

Closest thing were the liberal 1848 revolutions, which had an impact in Germany as liberal nationalists campaigned for unification. They even drafted a liberal constitution that would form a parliamentary constitutional monarchy (kinda like the UK at the time) and offered the Crown to the Prussian emperor, which speaks volumes to how many nationalists viewed Prussia as the natural hegemon and "head" of the German nations. The Prussian emperor declined and the movement fell apart.

Jews absolutely LOVED the Habsburg monarchy because it did not have a set ethnicity backing it and it actively campaigned against all forms of nationalism. This weird multicultural nation lacking an identity and race enamored itself to the Jews who despised the growing nationalist movements present elsewhere.
They even sang hymns praising Franz Josef.

Thank you for your reply, I am glad to see that I was not the only one who noticed the warm relations between Jews and the royal house of Habsburg.

It’s an aspect of history that is swept under the rug, much like how Jews in Iberian cities would sabotage fortresses and open city gates to invading Arabs. One can only wonder why.
