There is no general conscription in Germany, at least not currently. This therefore applies to those who are voluntarily in the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces).
Things will get interesting when the current occupation regime reintroduces conscription.

Ich weiß nicht, welche (politische) Einstellung Du in dem Alter hattest, aber meine wich bereits nicht stark von der heutigen ab. Insofern kam es mir ganz gelegen.
Mit meinen psychischen Problemen wäre es ohnehin der Horror geworden.
