FOUR 12-year-old girls were allegedly strip searched by school staff who mocked the size of their breasts, according to furious parents.
The black pupils were questioned and had their clothes removed after teachers wrongly suspected they had drugs with them, an advocacy group has claimed.
They were left feeling “shamed, humiliated and traumatised” after one staff member allegedly made comments about a girl’s eczema and the size of another’s breasts.
The allegations centred on East Middle School in Binghamton, New York, have prompted an outcry with 200 parents protesting at a school board meeting this week.
The school district board has since denied the claims saying: “School officials did not conduct a strip search.”
This denial came after parents vented their fury that the alleged searches were done without the consent of the girls’ families, who were only made aware of the incident when the pupils got home.
'SHAMED AND HUMILIATED'
“The children had their clothing removed and felt shamed, humiliated, and traumatised by [the] experience,” the Progressive Leaders of Tomorrow group wrote on Facebook.
“While they were being searched the nurse made disparaging comments about the eczema of one girl and the size of another’s breasts.”
The group claims that the girls were searched for appearing "hyper and giddy" following their lunch hour.
“They, as well as their parents, believe the heinous and excessive actions implemented by the school were racially motivated,” the group added.
They were allegedly searched for suspicion of possessing drugs – but no drugs were found.
PARENTS PROTEST AT SCHOOL MEETING
After protests at the school board meeting on Tuesday, the district issued an apology to the girls’ families.
"Unfortunately, our students shared that these actions have had the unintended consequences of making the students feel traumatized,” the statement said, according to the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin.
“We sincerely apologize for the impact this has had and are working with these families to support their children’s success
“A student may, under current law and policy, be searched in a school building by an administrator when the administrator reasonably suspects that a student’s health is in danger or is in possession of a substance that may harm themselves or others.”
The school district added that school administrators are trained to monitor student behaviour and determine whether they need “further evaluation.”

“When conducting medical evaluation, it may require the removal of bulky outside clothing to expose an arm so that vitals like blood pressure and pulse can be assessed,” the district said.
“This is not the same as a strip search.”
Alicia Richard, an East Middle student, said her best friend was one of the girls allegedly searched.
“How am I supposed to tell her everything is going to be OK if nothing is being taken care of?” she asked the board
