Televised trials sensationalism really picked up in the 1980s and 1990s with the start of reality tv and the 24 hour news cycle. It would require a cultural shift not seen since then before there was consensus to get rid of televised trials.
Don't forget the OJ Simpson Trial became famous for the continuous television coverage.
