That is flagrantly incorrect. We share an much different ideology than the manosphere, and cannot be fundamentally compared as such. (Ging, 2017), (Ribeiro et al., 2020), (Bates, 2021).Incels are part of a larger manosphere, a group of male-oriented websites that share
the belief that men face systemic discrimination
Incels are an diverse community consisting of different demographics and races. (Baele et al., 2021), (Ging, 2019; Bates, 2021), (Jaki et al., 2019).From this perspective, misogyny
is never just misogyny, but also shaped by other forms of oppression, such as racism. In
this article, we ask: how is incel misogyny both racist and racialized? We address this
question by comparing misogynistic terms that target White women (e.g. “Stacy”) with
terms that target Women of Color. As we argue, incel misogyny
orients to a matrix of domination
Interesting to note, considering that women are one of the major proponents of so called 'hegemonic' or 'subordinate' masculinity with their disparing and hateful treatment towards ugly men, And this directly and expressly serves the interest of women . (Buss & Schmitt, 1993), (Campbell et al., 2002), (Ging, 2017), (Pascoe, 2007), (Cornell, 2005)In contrast to hegemonic masculinity, subordinate masculinity refers to practices that
have been “exiled” from masculinity. Connell (1995) argues that men who participate in
subordinate masculinity have their masculine legitimacy questioned (e.g. gay men).
Connell likewise asserts that men who do not participate in heterosexual sex can be posi-
tioned, or position themselves, as subordinate.
In what way does misogyny align with 'hegemonic masculinity' and how it pushes it (Buss & Schmitt, 1993; Campbell et al., 2002), Connell (2005), Pascoe (2007). Misogyny is the direct rejection of said masculine ideas and said masculinity for it is hatred for women at its finest and more natural form.Situating misogyny as a hegemonic practice that per-
petuates unequal gender relations (Connell, 1995; Messerschmidt, 2018), we ask: to what
extent do incels participate in hegemonic masculinity? We address this question by docu-
menting the usage of misogynistic terms both in incel.is threads and users’ post histories,
as well as examining if users become more misogynistic in relation to posting frequency.
We argue that incels enact hybrid masculinity, as they self-identify as subordinate men
while ubiquitously participating in misogyny
Again. According to your own data. There is no correlation between an user's post count and how misogynistic they are.Together, Figures 1 and 2 suggest that overall participation in misogyny might be tied
to a survivorship bias among incels.is users, wherein users who do not produce misogy-
nistic content are less likely to maintain participation, whereas users who maintain mem-
bership arrive, rather than become, misogynistic
So shouldn't there be more users with incredibly high usage of 'misogynistic' words. Very very scary.
Weird. I thought incel ideology was caused by look-ism or perceived look-ism as according to your own research, An complete non-sequitur conclusion from the data and slop you just spewed out. (Glace et al., 2021; Preston et al., 2021). Incels focus on their looksmatches, and getting women of the same caliber and quality of them, so this is an idiotic conclusion to arrive to. (Baele et al., 2021; Ging, 2019). White women are seen as more desirable, sure(Baele et al., 2021), (Jaki et al., 2019), but again incels focus on their looksmatches.Incels’ double denigration of Women of Color is tied to their explicit evaluation of
women in relation to a racialized masculine hierarchy, wherein the Stacys and Beckys
who are reserved for the most attractive White men (“Chads”) are also elevated above all
other women.
The simple usage of these terms does not make an statement or ablity misogynist. I do agree that most of these terms are vulgar, but they simply don't make it misogynistic. You are starting off from an fundamental assumption, and using that assumption for collecting data or research which i think is shoddy behavior and practice. Our glossary includes the misogynistic terms listed in the incels.is glossary (Incels.wiki,
2021), as well as the misogynistic glossary on Hatebase.org (2021), as the incels.is glos-
sary omits some common misogynistic terms (e.g. “bitch,” “cunt”). In addition to using
these glossaries, we also included misogynistic terms that we documented in our prior
qualitative analyses (Halpin, 2022; Halpin and Richard, 2021; Preston et al., 2021) that
are both used by incels and missing from their glossary (e.g. “currywhore”).
Incels don't participate in ''''beneviolent'''' ''''sexism'''' as that benefits women and it hurts them. (Bates, 2021), Baele et al. (2021), Ging (2019)We suggest that “girl” reflects incels’ participation in benevolent sexism
(Glick and Fiske, 1996), as they compare adult women with children. Our analysis sug-
gests that incels’ benevolent sexism is dwarfed by their hostile sexism, as incels used just
a single hostile term
