"Of the 12,352 participants, 430 reported constipation, with a prevalence of 3.5%. Depression was reported in 1030 cases, indicating a prevalence rate of 8.3%. Patients with constipation were significantly more likely to have major depression (20.9%) than those without it (7.9%, p < 0.001)"

Probably a result of less exercise and a worse diet from the depression. I see medication having side effects too

The only time I’ve ever been constipated was when I binged drink Diet/zero Pepsi. Ever since then I never touched the stuff

Sugary Dr Pepper is king, but the bones don't like it as much.

I have weird gut issues (GERD and IBS)

I managed to get it under control but it does flare up from time to time. Kefir and low acid diet helped me with this

GERD is fucking brutal, but GERD+IBS? Holy brutal.

might give this a more thorough read later, but from a superficial reading, this study seems good. Would be very interesting to see a study on this topic conducted over 10-20 years.
