I was considering nvidia cause they have increased driver support as of recent on distros like debian but at the same time ive heard that nvidia is integrating some wierd AI bullshit into the gpus but then for amd ive heard the performance isnt the best although i might not even get a gpu cause i think that may be a slight system vulnerability and the goverment may be able to surveil my data through the gpu.

Mind you I have nothing of value to add, people say amd because it's integrated into the kernel. I've got nvidia, so far so good but I only play indie games and nothing serious

Don't buy Nividia at all, Linux runs pretty well on AMD chips, also the cost to performance is epic, and with video games steam has incredible support for Linux meaning you can play your entire steam library without any extra setup.

I have a 9070XT, but depending on your budget I can recommend some great cards.

AMD.

NVIDIA is getting better, but it's still not great.

Okay so some new issues.

I have a dell optiplex 3060 I use as a home server.
Dell is absolutely shit for upgrading, the case is super fucking small.
The PSU is tiny, only around 200 watts.

Now the good news, so you can go on ebay or Facebook marketplace and pick up a RX 6400 which is a 4gb card.
No need for any wires or anything, the card draws all its power from the motherboard, also should have enough headroom from your PSU.

Its not insane performance, but it'd be a massive jump up from integrated graphics for 60-100 bucks depending on what kinda deal you snag.

Last time I've checked AMD because they were supporting Linux for a long time before NVIDIA got the message.

All I can say about any NVIDIA card that I've had is that it would always just work.

As for AMD cards, the drivers are the main issue.

The only two AMD cards whoch worked from start to finish are extremely outdated.

What I have also noticed is that all of the GPUs that have failed on me were always AMD cards, never NVIDIA cards.

And I am telling you this as an AMD (underdog) supporter.

I know their flaws very well and l will continue criticizing them where they need it but will also continue using their products so long as I can live with the hardship.
