The year is 1992, game developer Ocean Software planned to release a port of the popular and critically acclaimed PC-Engine platformer, Parasol Stars (or Rainbow Islands, depending on where you lived) on the dying Commodore 64. It is said that it was to be released as a sequel rather than an actual port.
At this point, the C64 was clearly on it’s way out and everyone knew this. So to go out with a bang, the developer decided to port over ‘91’s exciting and popular title to the C64 for release in ‘92 (game seemed to be more popular in the Euro markets than in the US)
Since the C64 was dying out, Ocean contracted their later games out to external, in-house designers and coders on the cheap. They handed over the project to freelance developer, Colin Porch, who had success with other previous games.
So after about 3 months worth of work, Colin proved his worth with a really strong demo (quite advanced at this early stage) with his own graphics and took it to Ocean. They were impressed by what they saw and gave him the ok to complete it for publishing. Btw, this would be Ocean’s final fairwell to the Commodore 64.
After about another 3 months of work, a strong conversion seemed to be shaping up. The game was very well near completion and would be available for release on its projected due date. If I’m not mistaken, it was set to be released for the Christmas holiday. They had good marketing and advertisements already printed in gaming magazines and what not. Retailers had even made purchases for advanced copies and posters.
Anyway, what happened next would completely rip the hearts out of little boys and girls who were anticipating this release as well as potentially destroying careers of people working hard on the project.
You see, developer Colin had a falling out with his then wife at the time resulting in a bitter dispute. According to him, she decided to go back to her first husband of 20 years prior. Anyway, before she left, in a fit of drunken rage, she destroyed and corrupted all the disks she could find of all the work and progress. I believe even the computer was damaged. Now, for all of you saying “why didn’t this stupid cuck make any fucking backups?!” Well, he actually did have backups of the nearly completed game and work, but guess what? The cunt burned/destroyed those too!
Now just imagine... Children opening their eyes on Christmas morning, only to be met with devastation as their highly awaited game was never to be found under the Christmas tree that holiday morning, never to be seen at all...
I remember watching a yt video that went into more of the specifics of what happened in the incident, but can’t seem to find it now. But there you go. Foids don’t give a flying fuck. Just how like hyena foids watch their newborn cubs fight each other until one kills the other. Foids are just like giggling “tehehe” hyenas.

Following on from the brilliant Bubble Bobble and the radical Rainbow Islands, Parasol Stars was one of the most eagerly awaited games of 1992. However,
