They would give you money to go with your friends to the brothel or they would even go as far at to take you there if they felt you where too much of a mamas boy and would not do it on your own...
They would not do that if they saw you having an interest in girls on your own. Or if you where interested in becoming a church monk or priest. At least in the west.
In many places you where not considered a man until you been with a woman. So if you where 19 , 20 , 21 and you didn't have an experience like that your father would step in. Many villages that would not have a brothel or a town whore they would send guys to the big cities for that reason alone.
The bachelor got party started because of the fear that if the guy didn't know what he was doing in the first night of marriage he would embarrass the family to the community.
