At age 21, sorority student Emile Weaver concealed her pregnancy while continuing her normal life, including drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana, and participating in activities. She later gave birth in the bathroom of her sorority house at Muskingum University in Ohio.

After the birth, prosecutors said she did nothing to keep the newborn alive. The infant, later named Addison, died from suffocation. Weaver placed the baby in a trash bag along with items like food packaging and left the bag outside near the sorority house. She then drove to McDonald’s.

Around the same time, she sent text messages to the baby’s father saying, “No more baby…taken care of,” and told him it was a girl with his hair. When police arrived and investigated, Weaver was arrested.

During questioning, she admitted she had little concern for the baby and focused more on herself. She also said she had been in denial about the pregnancy. At trial, she pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

In 2016, she was convicted of aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence, and initially received life in prison without parole after rejecting a plea deal. In 2022, advocates pushed for a review of her sentence, arguing it was too severe compared to similar cases.

By November 2023, her sentence was modified to life with the possibility of parole after 20 years, making her eligible for release around 2035.
