A previously unseen video released by the public prosecutor's office in Sion, Switzerland, reveals how the tragic fire at Le Constellation bar in the Crans-Montana ski resort began, leaving 41 people dead and more than 100 injured on January 1, 2026. The footage shows the first 18 seconds of the fire and reveals how everything unfolded in a matter of seconds.
The video shows several young people carrying bottles with flares, while a waitress raises one towards the ceiling covered with highly flammable acoustic foam. The spark in the cladding caused the flames to spread rapidly throughout the premises, causing the tragedy.
The bar's owners, Jacques Moretti and his wife, remain free but are subject to precautionary measures: they must report regularly to the police station and are prohibited from leaving Switzerland. Both are charged with negligent homicide.
The Swiss Public Prosecutor's Office is also coordinating efforts with Italian investigators to clarify the incident, increasing international cooperation. Moretti testified on February 12 before the victims' lawyers and emphasized: “There is not a single moment when we stop thinking about the victims.”
These images could become key to the investigation and help determine responsibility for the catastrophe that shocked all of Switzerland and Europe.
