Basically his liver is so fucked he is in constant withdrawal and he could die from it without using alcohol to restore some balance. I grew up in an area with some heavy alcoholics all around and It's some real shit. I also know a guy who had his insides slowly removed through surgeries which perpetuated his guts continuing to rot and him needing to be on more meds to stay alive.
