I was working at my desk, and then this mayo late 30s, extroverted, mom-manager with the energy of a kindergarten teacher on Adderall came up to me. She says, ‘Don’t forget the team meeting upstairs', and then her hand back slaps my upper arm like I’m a naughty golden retriever.

I barely even know her properly.

In terms of personality, I’m the complete opposite: extremely quiet, socially awkward, turbo-loner. Can she sense this? My quietness = no social capital = safe to infantilise? Does my social awkwardness say "punching bag available"?

It felt demeaning because it felt I needed a physical punctuation reminder like I'm a child who needs tactile reinforcement to understand words.

Or maybe she's bored, because office life is soul-crushing, and harassing the office weirdo is her version of 'fun'?

I'm guessing because of her age + mom status, it gives her social license to bully. She’s old enough to play the “I’m just being maternal” card if HR gets involved.

Honestly, the only thing worse than being ignored at work is being noticed like this.

She's older and doesn't see you as a grown man.
A lot of old women have that instinct to do that. If you were tall and or had muscles + low inhib to stand up for yourself she'd stop, but alas.
