Females are guaranteed to breed no matter what while only males possessing certain features get to pass on their genetics. This sexual selection is what resulted in our brains getting larger in a very short span of time (whereas natural selection would have taken many more years as lack of a big brain is not detrimental to survival).


As a result of this, one can expect the males of most species to possess 'beautiful' traits and the females to look bland or boring. Below pics show these features in some species.
