Mine is German Field marshal Erich Von Manstein, arguably the most skilled millitary commander in WW2.

Absolutely the most skilled, he's the reason the Eastern Front even stayed up that long and France was taken that quickly.

But I would have loved to meet Rommel. He had so much aura, even the allies gave him a cool nickname, "the Desert Fox".

Charles de Gaulle, easily the most based leader of the 20th century, besides him, I also like MacArthur.

Unlike Manstein, he didn't have a noble background, and he achieved everything on his own. He enrolled in the German Empire's military academy as a non-nobleman. He made himself. He excelled on the Eastern Front, particularly in the Battle of Rzhev, where he inflicted two million casualties on the Red Army in a single battle. He also did as he pleased, disregarding Hitler's orders. Secondly, he had almost the highest award of the Third Reich, the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds (only 30 people had this award). Secondly, when he became the commander of the Western Front, he simply sent his soldiers home two months before the end of the war and committed suicide to avoid being executed by Hitler and being captured by the Anglo-American forces.

Imo the ideal commander for each German army group in the east for Barbarossa would have been

Walther Model for army group north

Manstein for army group center

Rommel for army group south
