It took me years to beat it the first time. I'm not very talented at the game. There are a couple of things I realized after starting over multiple worlds. You want to start planning stuff early in the world's life, like setting up farms for herbs and mushrooms, as well as making sure you save everything you pickup and put them into chests. This reduces grinding later on in the game. When it comes to fighting bosses, they are significantly easier when you have tons of buffs available like well-fed, regen, ironskin, thorns, etc. Also you always want to have the best arena, especially if you haven't mastered bosses, or events ai.
I think another reason I didn't beat the game earlier is because I kept starting over due to not liking grinding, as well as not doing cheap stuff like spamming the nurse.
