You can't even be accepted or rejected until you pass the looks test.  FACE is like the password to the crazy Eyes Wide Shut Party where all the action is happening.  To meet people you have to be socially included into groups.  You have to be invited in.  Somebody has to inspect your bone structure and then give you the nod.  Then you can go to the party.  You can be invited to the study session.  You can hang with the crew.  Before, though, you have no access.  And there's no way to get close to girls, get to know them, and maybe make a move. Classes, work, etc. give you some universal opportunities (hence the "it's over at 18" meme when those universal opportunities start dwindling).  But otherwise you need social approval to even meet girls.  

Maybe you think you'll do online, right?  Nope.  Tinder sorts your profile into your league and only shows you gl or ugly people depending on your FACE.  Maybe you want to cold approach?  Nope.  Girls will only give you as much of an opportunity as your face allows.  You're a 6... maybe you get an hour.  You're a 4... you're lucky if anyone even stops for you.  FACE isn't just the deciding factor.  It's what even allows for an opportunity to get rejected.
