I played a bit of F.E.A.R at a friend's place sometime in 2007 IIRC but I didn't buy my own copy for some reason.

I recently thought of that game and decided to get it from Steam. It came with 2 expansion packs -- "Extraction Point" and "Perseus Mandate".

Played through them last week and finished everything.

My thoughts: F.E.A.R is an amazing game with superb enemy AI and highly satisfying gun play. Absolutely loved the time-slowing mechanic. The gun fights were absolutely INTENSE and unlike anything else I've seem.

The story was interesting, but a bit convoluted. I also liked the voice acting, especially the radio chatter of the enemy soldiers. It really felt like you were fighting actual humans.

Minor complaints: The environment design could have been more varied. Even though the game takes place in a wide variety of gritty urban environments -- docks, industrial areas, warehouses, abandoned buildings, offices, labs etc -- the areas within the levels felt rather samey which made it easy to get lost in. Either way, the gloomy ambience kind of made up for it.

The last moments were very memorable and wrap up the game nicely.

As for the expansion packs, "Extraction Point" had some nice horror sequences, like the one in the morgue. Also loved the first fight in the church when the dormant Replica soldiers get suddenly re-activated.

"Perseus Mandate" was pretty ok. It had some good moments, but I didn't like that I had to play as a completely new character who just happens to have the exact same time-slowing abilities as the original protagonist. Also wasn't a fan of the new enemies, the mercenaries, who were just re-skinned versions of the replica soldiers but with weak voice acting. They should have just used the characters from the original game.

Overall, playing F.E.A.R and the 2 EPs was a fantastic experience. Pity they don't make single player games like this anymore.

I was looking at F.E.A.R 2, and apart from the name it looks like a completely different game with a weird story. The game itself looks nice, and I might get it later but not immediately. And you also play as a new character, a generic marine, and not the cool "Pointman" of the original game. Just why? What's the point of a sequel to a hit game if it doesn't feature the main character from the original?

F.E.A.R 3 also seems to be F.E.A.R in name only. The game itself might be good in it's own way but in terms of gameplay and mechanics, it's a completely new product. The "pointman" is back, but he's been given a personality and a face, which ruins the mystery about him. It also defeats the idea of him being a placeholder for the human players to dwell in. Not getting it.

Played it fully few years ago since at launch i was a huge pussy with shitty pc so couldn't beat it. I had similar feeling as you, stelar and perfect gunplay, but very boring level design with repetitive envirements. Both sequels sucked and don't remember anything from them except adult Alma.

It's very Jewish that you can't buy the first game on its own, the publisher forces you to buy all three.

this game scared the shit out of me as a kid. Dont even remember why

In F.E A.R 2, adult Alma is shown fucking the protagonist, a giga-Chad special forces guy.

Even 0/10 foid zombies are Chad only. SMDH. :lul:

Fear 2 is pretty good. Not as good as the original but still good nonetheless. Fear 3 however is terrible. I wouldn’t even bother with that one or at least lower your expectations a lot before you play it.

It's fucky, but they need to force you to buy the other games because no one is going to buy them by itself.

I've completed all three FEAR games multiple times other than FEAR 3 I don't think I ever completed the Fettel story.

For me... I mostly enjoy the horror/FPS fusion so because that was I think even more pronounced in FEAR 2 I enjoyed that a lot more. I guess 1 is more of a technical marvel.

3... hm. It's by a different company. I don't hate it and it's fun for that fusion again but don't expect too much.

Fear 2 is a serviceable game. I dislike the fact there is no lean mechanic which is something I relied heavily in the first game and felt less interact able. Aside from that it's good but not great.

i finished the first one and liked it a lot it was pretty repetitive but i like repetitive games for some reason
