They are artificially inflating standards for men. Unless I also take steroids and have the perfect lighting on me every single moment, I can’t even come close to emulating what is seen as “muscular.” Without Hollywood I would be seen as overly muscular, maybe even freakishly so. But when what I’m being compared to are roof heads like Dwayne Johnson’s or Chris Hemsworth or whatever, there’s nothing I can do. In media, lifting isn’t about hard work or consistency, it’s about access to resources like steroids and personal trainers, as well as films literally adjusting for the perfect angle and lighting to make them look as good as possible.
If I see any one of those people on the street I might be motivated to do something very unforthcoming
