There would still be interest groups for most subjects. Nowadays they still "exist", but look at them: Their membership numbers are (as compared to their past days of glory) a bad joke, previously there were hundreds, nowadays there are maybe five people there with the numbers dwindling due to age-related death - and the remaining fews are all males, most of them in the age of your own grandparents. Sometimes there is still the occasional millenial (that still is at least a decade older than you). Finding similiar people as you due to common interests was still possible a few years ago to some degree, nowadays in the zoomer generation this is simply not possible.
This generation speaks ebonics, listens to some nigger music, is into roasting culture (e.g. they think that acting like a foul-mouthed asshole constantly criticizing others while being no better than them is the epitome of being quirky/unique) and is only interested in Weed, League Of Legends and partying - and btw partying is also not a way how to find people: The public party/disco has been replaced by the private house party (which requires a pre-existing social network to enter), no new friendships/relationships are formed, they exist before the party and after the party, a party is no way to meet people, it is only attendable when you already met them. When they attend public parties they do it always with their clique (which is in itself a mostly exclusivistic circle), they go there to drink in public and listen to even louder music and when somebody new tries to join in he will be brutally mocked (especially if the person you talk to is a female, then some drunken-ass boyfriend beats your face in without any warning or her "emotional tampons" come there every few seconds and ask her if she is bothered).
When you look at millenials/boomers and how they met people you mostly see that they did it with discos or interest groups - all things that are unavailable to the zoomer generation (except if are into grannymaxxing). Unironically: When you listen to most advice given to incels you see that the giver of that advice is a boomer or a very late millenial - they lived in an entirely different reality, back then joining interest groups, visiting cooking trainings or a disco was a valid way to connect with like-minded people of your age (including women). Nowadays it isn't.
The social decay can be approximated with an exponential function, it was almost always at a very low stage and then it suddenly exploded. Online dating became a real thing in the 2010s (previously it existed but was met with scrutiny/wasn't socially acceptable) - for them the reality of online dating was a deviation of the status quo that they can now mock due to getting in a relationship before shit hitting the fan and therefore being unaffected by it to large degrees, for our generation this is the only thing we know, the status quo, for us Instagram/Snapchat/Tik Tok/etc. were the nutrient medium of this generation, we were still kids when the relevant dating apps like Tinder/etc. were created and now for us as adults they are the only reality. I even wish there was a way to go back to the 2015s were some people became wary of it and some counter movements were formed, nowadays they don't exist anymore and the situation has again exponentially worsened since then. Especially due to COVID now online dating will be even more relevant (roughly 40% of couples met online 2017, imagine how high the numbers are now due to COVID and after it with the number even rising long before any pandemic).
