This is a disease of the third and second world, where wealth is concentrated only in the capitals. In Russia, Moscow has a much higher standard of living than other cities. In Poland, Warsaw has a significantly higher standard of living than other cities. However, in Western first-world countries, the situation is reversed. In Italy, Milan is wealthier than Rome. In Germany, Munich is wealthier than Berlin. In the United States, San Francisco or New York is wealthier than the District of Columbia.

It’s still stuck in this expansionist and ‘control the periphery’ mindset of ancient times instead of forming pragmatic alliances and developing it’s economy. Instead of trading with neighbouring countries for mutual benefit Ethiopia wants to control them (despite being incapable of managing their own territory). As you can see it’s all about an elite trying to grab resources. The people are just feudal levies.

This doesn’t work when modern warfare requires real funding and logistics from a strong developed economy. Malnourished peasants with guns and charity money can’t take over shit. Europe understood this the most and protected it’s industries.

Of course with Sahelian elites like Hemedti/RSF, sufficient funding can be acquired by say controlling gold mines and selling to UAE. Thus creating endless gas for violence compared to Somali warlords who gradually dwindled due to low funds.
