I learned two languages just from songs, now you can too

How the hell do young people in Europe speak so many languages so easily? When I studied for a semester in the Netherlands I always observed students there flirting and making jokes with each other in English and it wasn't even their first language. Meanwhile I'm so fucking socially awkward and uncalibrated I fail to do that even in English, the only fucking language I know. I met a guy in Lithuania who was able to speak Lithuanian, Russian, Polish, and English, like it's fucking insane. All the while I struggle greatly to learn Russian, I'm only like level A2, it's so fucking discouraging.

Education in Central Europe and above puts emphasis on learning languages. You learn 2 foreign languages during your school years and 1 of them is English.

Lithuanian? Of course he's gonna be speaking Russian. Polish isn't that far off either considering the history the 2 countries have.

I learnt English to a C2 level by just rotting online 24/7 between the ages of 12 and 18.

Currently learning Japanese at a very slow pace because uni drains me.

It's fine to go at your own pace. Language learning is a sort of adventure. Turning hobbies into competition is one sure fire way of ending up with no copes and not enjoying the process.

Well, it’s not entirely about being social, I rarely even have any opportunity to speak English to people. It’s more about listening.

What helped me except songs is app called Fluent Forever or sth like that that teaches tongue placement when you speak, it made me realize sounds are limited to certain tongue placement and automatically feel it in my mouth when I hear English spoken or sang.

You can’t learn other way than passively because that’s how human brain works, a baby learns language passively, if you try learning it from books you treat language like math.

I speak English and Russian except my main language and I learned both passively

School puts emphasis on learning languages of course. You learn two languages at once in B1 level from teacher that speaks neither
