ECUADOR — Shocking new video shows the moment a man tried committing suicide after stabbing a woman in Ecuador, in what reports are calling a crime of jealousy.

The attack took place on the morning of April 15, in the La Carolina park in Ecuador’s capital city Quito

In the video, the woman can be seen lying on the ground, while the suspect tries using a tree to push the knife against his torso. The man then turns to the woman and tries to stab her yet again inside the Ecuador park. Fortunately, a man standing nearby intervenes and bashes the suspect with what appears to be a heavy log of wood — further keeping the suspect away from the victim.

The suspect is said to be of Honduran descent and was arrested by police.

The woman was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
