I feel like my addiction to being online and to read books is no different from drug dependence.
I can literally read or use phone for many hours every day.
It could be that if your mind isn't filled with higher purpose or relationships, then it tries to fill emptiness with various activities.

There may be similarities if it is compulsive behaviour but even then the sheer chaos that chemical addiction brings is unparalleled.
