Mass Effect is my favorite game series. I liked even Mass Effect Andromeda.

Baldur's Gate III is the only example of a modern game I can think of where they didn't shy away from the dark themes. There is some explicit stuff about the process to become mind flayer.

Alright, I've played like 12 hours. Some early game impressions in contrast with the Skillup review:

-the puzzles are very simplistic in concept, true, but they aren't THAT easy. The example he shows is literally the tutorial puzzle, so of course it's easy. but there were some chests I missed because I didn't know how to get to them and I looked everywhere.

-I feared this was going to be a safe Disney wonderland fantasy, but there are dark elements. there is body horror. there were some disgusting, corrupted, pulsating organic materials. They also made disgusting flesh noises, they felt right out of Dragon Age Origins.

-the combat isn't that easy for a retard like me who typically plays games on Easy. I play on the Normal difficulty, and I almost died a few times. I also ran out of healing items with no healing companions because I thought I wouldn't need them, and it was pretty rough.

-there is enemy variety. some attack you from afar, some are melee. some are slow, some are fast. some have extra health bars and need a specific attack type to be effective.

So far, it seems like a generic above average fantasy RPG. If you took out the name 'Dragon Age', nothing would change. Given the fact that only 3 choices import from the previous 3 games, and they are barely consequential choices, this might as well not be a Dragon Age game.

But now the really bad stuff...

-the writing... Mang, it really does feel like this is a game for children. You are being treated like a 12 year old.

Here is an example: I get to a new level and the cinematic shows me some statues that I know I will have to fight. Then an NPC says ''be careful, the statues here will attack anyone they don't recognize''. It is so obvious that includes me and my party. Then a second NPC says ''That includes as well''. Umm, yeah?

-the dialogue in this game isn't meant to expand upon the world like in previous games, but it is meant to make sure that you understand that's going on

-it is not possible to ask NPCs for more information. In previous Dragon Age games, you could go to an NPC, then you'll have a bunch of options to ask about the world, so that it gets fleshed out. Here, at least 12 hours in, I haven't really seen any NPCs that you could ask additional questions. If they're not part of your direct ongoing quest, you can't interact with them

-the story is kind of dissapointing so far. Solas gets sidestepped, and big bad enemy is just generic evil ancient god. I hope there will be some twists...

It is thankfully kind of out of the way, but your character looks into a mirror and you can basically select a choice that is ''I'm a beautiful, strong independent trans!''

I just wish there was an option to say you HATE what you are seeing in the mirror. I made my character fat, ugly, with manboobs. I made myself. I really wish ugly incel men were acknowledged... Think of the potential.

But nope. This game is made by retarded trannies FOR retarded trannies. I am retarded, so I like parts of it.

But yeah, Bioware as we knew them is dead. Dragon Age Origins was just a freak accident. Lightning in a bottle. They never made something like that since it, and they never will.
