In the past being incel was directly tied to being a uglycel. Everything revolved around the idea that ugly people get no pussy. If you were incel but not considered ugly people would attack you and call you a fakecel.

It wasn't enough to be just below average in terms of looks, you practically had to be facially deformed to be seen as having a legitimate right to belong to 'incels', this almost prestigious group.
