Discussion Does the growing popularity of "vibe coding" make you more or less likely to go into programming?

The effect?

Vibe coding is just programming using AI.

Nah, I have bad vibes

I'm too retarded for learning programming

what's the point of getting into programming if you are going to let AI do the work for you

the reason I enjoy coding is because I like problem solving

Idc if it's there to assist either btw, AI will do more work than you without you realizing

can't always depend on AI to do shit for you

i think vibecoding only really works good if you already know how to program it can help accelerate the boring parts or more repettive aspects of writing code but still fails at more of the complex aspects. i can't code though so vibe coding is fun to do random shit and test with

Never heard of that shit

This, vibe coding is useless unless you already know at least the basics of programming or else the AI is going to spit out spaghetti code you can’t debug.

In a way it just reminds me of using Frontpage or Dreamweaver back in the day. It's a tool.

But the popularity of it is a concern because it means that it's a tool that it's difficult to avoid if you want to get into programming professionally.

Yes.

I think I might be able to program with AI but I'd have to wrap my head around the idea that it kind of involves 3 things:

- ensuring the AI is good
- ensuring my commands are good
- accepting some degree of trial and error

Idk man... It would be really wise for entry level devs to switch to entrepreneurship instead imo.

System admin agents can already automate a bunch of mundane manual tasks that devs used to do.

Some average joe can crank out a business website or app in a week or two and have an ai agent do the system admin work.

It's pretty much entirely killed my interest in it.

It's weird because on the one hand I feel like I can adapt to this change but on the other it feels almost nightmarish. Dystopian.

Being chained to some strange AI and just hoping it writes code properly. Pretty awful.

And no way out because if you do, you won't be able to write code fast enough.

Man. What a world. I'm glad my computers are too old to be affected much by all this.

Never heard of it

I do feel like this is the end of computing. Mostly due to AI but also political activism.

RIP computing 1982 - 2026! It was a good ride while it lasted ^_^
