I've read about 150 books on occultism, esotericism, etc., and that's not counting books on mystery, Jungian psychology, and things like that.
And I still have no idea if this stuff works or not.
Things like astrology and Kabbalah can be used as paths to self-knowledge; you can extract wisdom from them (I'm talking about deep astrology, not the crap on Twitter from feminist witches).
But it's not like you're going to learn to throw a Kamehameha or mentally manipulate other human beings by learning these things.
Alchemy talks about inner spiritual transformation, but good luck doing that in the sociopolitical context of the 21st century. It's like trying to isolate yourself like a Buddhist monk in the middle of the city. Besides, it's incredibly hard work and doesn't guarantee any benefit or result (what is inner alchemical transmutation supposed to mean even? Are you supposed to start feeling different? Do psychic powers awaken?).
The most interesting part of Occultism, which would be the acquisition of psychic powers, I'm still not clear on.
I don't even know if these things exist.
Do psychic powers exist, or is it all just smoke and mirrors?
