Trends in the Islamic world. Islamic countries that have embraced the West like Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States are slowly but surely becoming more tolerant and socially liberal while does have decided to reject the West all together are going backwards like Afghanistan. Iran is as special case as even though they are anti-Western they have made attempts to catch up technologically which in my view has caused them to also become more and more socially progressive despite their government’s anti-western stance, which is purely political. The only way to preserve Islamic tradition at this point is to freeze technological development and decentralize like in Afghanistan.

I think that the academic method for approaching a historical text clearly shows that the Qur'an is a human fabrication like any other, and that the claims of the Bible quickly adapted to historical-critical research, which the Qur'an is incapable of doing precisely because of its claims about its nature.
In other words, recognized imams (not modernists, whom no one takes seriously) and academic researchers on the Qur'an belong to worlds that cannot communicate with each other. Whereas in Christianity, there is no such divide; some archaeological discoveries that relegated certain biblical stories to the realm of myth were even made by priests, for example.
But it's unlikely islam dies completly in the next decades or even century imo.
