One thing a lot of people here don't realize is the value of their first world passport. For many, they don't care you might be a broke ass loser. As long as you will marry them and grant them access to that passport, that is worth their effort because they can start working and send money home and be relatively speaking ultra rich. A filipinos daily wage is like £5, if you work in a bank or something.
