Discussion Does anyone else feel like as they've gotten older their friendships have become more surface-level?

I used to have close friends that I really felt connected to. But for some reason as I've gotten older even though I've still got friends it always ends up just being surface level.

Even when I know someone for ages it's like we're never truly close just... we talk lots.

Maybe adults just keep people at arm's length more than kids or teens. The only time for ages that I remember feeling like I had a closer connection with people was back on Roblox years ago and they were teens I think.

Reminds me of that Radiohead lyric "fond but not in love". Even that was about the changes people often go through as they "mature".

So yeah, idk. Maybe it's just part of adulthood to some degree.

The only way to get friends nowadays as an adult is to drink alcohol with other people. It's not really friendship, it's more so people bathing in their own miserys and addictions.
