It depends on just how committed the individual is to their core beliefs, but in general, yes, it’s human instinct to survive no matter what. If most people had the choice between living and renouncing a metaphysical set of beliefs or dying and sticking to those beliefs they would choose the former.

There’s a reason why martyrdom is so valued and seen as the ultimate sacrifice a person can make in almost all cultures: true martyrs are rare as it requires a person to overcome their nature.
