According to Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy is Brazilian. Oda confirmed the nationalities of the Straw Hat Pirates in response to a fan question on SBS. In another interview, Eiichiro Oda said Luffy's real-world nationality analogue is Brazilian.
Oh yeah, and here are the nationalities of the other Straw Hat Pirates:
- Roronoa Zoro: Japanese
- Nami: Swedish
- Usopp: South African
- Sanji: French
- Tony Chopper: Canadian
- Brook: Austrian
- Franky: American
- Jinbe: Curry
- Nico Robin: Russian
I'm not sure if you're trolling or just straight up denying the truth, but my point is, diversity has always been one of the key elements and a major theme of One Piece, with characters hailing from many different races, ethnicities, backgrounds, and nationalities. Oda has said that he always intended the Straw Hat crew to be diverse, and has revealed the real-world nationalities of each member. Therefore, it really should come as no surprise that Jewflix got their grubby little hands on this series.
Not only that, but Eiichiro Oda CHOSE Hollywood to adapt One Piece into a live-action Jewflix show because he believed Hollywood could do justice to the world he created. Oda had previously turned down Japanese offers to make a live-action series, but said he was "very, very happy" with the Jewflix adaptation. While One Piece isn't explicitly espoused to have one set ideology, Oda's values make it clear that One Piece is, in fact, a series made for everyone. I believe its themes make it the perfect material for Hollywood and the elites controlling the entertainment industry to use to further push the diversity agenda. It is the most successful and globally appealing manga series ever created, after all.
Keep in mind, I know all of this despite never even having watched or read any of it. I'm not even a shonentard, either.
