do you guys ever feel sorry for someone unattractive because you know what it's like?

So I am posting this to see if anyone encountered a similar situation. During my highschool years there was this guy in my class who was maybe 5"7, obese, extremely unattractive, who always sat alone. He rarely, if ever talked to anyone, but when he did he was always cheery and he seemed like a great guy. I always felt horrible when looking at him sitting by himself in class. This culminated when I was revising math with him and he showed me a sheet he made which had a section with important formulas. Above that section, he wrote "внимание" (attention in russian) in reference to warnings in soviet fighter jet cockpits. This is when I realised that me and this guy share a common interest and that he is a pretty interesting person, but nobody has ever, or ever will bother to speak to him because of the way he looks, something which he largely wasn't able to control. This crushed me, because it is precisely what I always faced my entire life.

Sometimes but I'm to shy to talk to even other people who might be lonely but now im working on that and now its only on most days now sometimes i do talk to people if i have to i force myself to try
