I've learned that making friends is hard work. People aren't just going to instantly like you. If one seemingly does, keep your third eye open. In my experience, they are making a mark out of you, just like any other con artist out there. They want more OUT of you than they are prepared to GIVE you.
In my youth, I was very eager to please. I did things for my coworkers without expecting anything in return, thinking this was the path to getting people to like me. It did just the opposite. With most folks, the more you do for them, the more they are going to expect out of you. It's a bottomless pit. You will reach a boiling over point, because once in a blue moon, you ask for something in return -- and you just keep getting brushed off. It should dawn on you that you are dealing with a swine who has grown to see you as a reliable free resource. Who also thinks you are stupid for not wising up to the fact that you are being used like a walking tool. But when you do decide to end the free gravy train, the swine won't be grateful for everything you've already done, but will start hating you for putting a stop to it.
Yeah, I know that there are some good people in the world. If you can find one, befriend that one. They are rare.
