You wouldn't say "nothing ever happens" if you, only for example, lived in an unfortunate situation like in Ukraine at the start of the war. You'd say "things are happening"
Admittedly, most europeans and americans are right to say "nothing ever happens", because we have been in a time of only relative peace for 80 years, when Europe has been in conflict for the last thousands of years continously.
But I also think it's reasonable to say that this peace is coming to an end. I don't think I even have to explain why. A lot of reasons.
Something will definitely happen sooner or later.
