"Do they know they can just be gay?" Inside the weirdest manosphere trend yet - Queerty
Actually, let them stay in the closet
The PSL scale, described by GQ as a “looksmaxxing rating system,” is yet another way young men in the alt right camp have found to call themselves (and other men) ugly.
Of course, looksmaxxing has been around for awhile, but it’s reaching an absurd level of plausible deniability at the hands of guys who spend all day obsessing over other guys’ looks while swearing up and down that they’re not gay.
“Do incels know that you can just be gay,” asked TikTok Don Martin in a video criticizing the ridiculous trend.
No one is fooled, of course: it’s clear that looksmaxxing has nothing to do with winning the favor of women. For these men, it’s all about judging and rating other men, with a eugenics twist.
But god forbid they, you know, go on a date with a man. Instead, they’re content to sit at home and judge other men’s appearances on a scale of Sub5 to Chad, while denigrating the looks of women on a similar—but strangely much less erotic—scale.
The screaming irony in all this is that living your life in search of the perfect jawline is pretty much the gayest thing you can do short of being a Heated Rivalry-watching, Oscar Wilde-reading, Barbra Streisand-ticket-holding, man-loving friend of Dorothy.
“I don’t get it,” one commenter wrote under Martin’s video. “Just be gay.”
As grim as this kind of masculinity is, there’s one aspect of this we can be grateful for: staying deep in the closet keeps these guys out of the dating pool, and for the most part, out of our lives.
I mean, they aren't wrong that the Looksmaxxing community is mostly just a bunch of faggots, but I'll be damned if I ever follow the advice of a site that literally calls itself Queerty
