there's this trend where people keep saying this or that superhero story is gonna be the "next big thing", and look its not that good alright? invincible isnt that good either, neither are the incredibles, ALL OF THESE STORIES PLAY THE SAME FORMULA, omni man set a standard no traditional superhero story is gonna live up to. like for example the main characters motivation chalks up to "im gonna take down the organization that killed my father and help people", its so tactical that its jarring he doesnt have harder feelings about it when they also try to play it off like he's not "ideal" at the same time. this spells out the problem; it tries to play off this "quirky" mindset while only having the basis of a generic superhero story to work with. it especially bleeds into the dialogue, like where they make multiple jokes about the overplayed tropes they're using, or where some of the story beats even suffer as a result, like the scene robert argues with invisigal like a moron instead of telling her to check a dying mans pulse, or when invisigals entire "hero arc" relies on the station being stupid and not telling their dispatchers how to use the comms when its caused PR NIGHTMARES! the best character in the game is phenomaman, but even he's just another "misunderstood alien" trope. the story does NOTHING NEW, 30% of it just baits you into playing a card game. go read the reckoners if you want to see this "9/10" superhero story people talk about, i had a lot of fun with that series, the end does get a little gay though so i'll warn you there.
oh and on the side note can we cut it out with the romance? its like these stories go "oh BOY get the popcorn we're about to watch their vanilla sex lives play out", im just tired of it, i genuinely couldnt care less, its painfully boring to watch.
