The good news is that his account is public - comb through the people who follow him (not just the ones he follows) - this will give you an idea of who he has a personal connection to. Then, use this against him by finding out more about his location - they might have things in common like school, work, city, etc. - this is actually how I discovered the home address of someone trolling me and left him "gifts".

It's more so that if you download his pictures, there's a chance that it'll have his gps location or at least location of the place he took the photo at the time.
All metadata does is show where did he take the pictures, at what time and what kind of camera/phone it used to take them, at least from my understanding. So basically, metadata shows information about the picture and it's something every phone does.
In this case it was a male (different scenario, years ago) and he was dumb enough to post his car, which specifically was parked at his garage with his address plate visible, and with that it was a simple matter. He also lived in my city which helped.

Your content,as in location, phone specifications and such, are all stored in a single image.
So if you take a pic of your table for example, the metadata will show where you took the pic at the moment(which is your house), the time you took your pic at and the type of phone you used to take your pic with it.
