I remember as a kid buying a game from the local store, opening the box and discovering the manual along with the disk. It was fun reading the manuals and all the details/story they included. They'd also have physical advertisements for other games which was cool. There was a certain charm to inserting a disk into your console and being able to instantly play it. Nowadays everything is so souless and corporate. If there's a manual it will be the most souless and stale manual imaginable. You have to wait like ten minutes to an hour for each game to install even if you get it physically.

Steam is very convenient, and enable us to buy games that we likely would never find in stores

The only thing I miss about physical disk games is they were more complete before the DLC era.

It's so much more convenient downloading everything.

That is why I like GOG so much. Many games come with box art and Manuel's, iirc.

You can print that, even the CD label is there and if you have one of those CD burners that can print the label on your CD, it is almost like owning the real thing.

I have quite a few old games that I was to buy and then burn on disc, put the label on etc. to actually have it as a collectible.
They've even managed to release all of Resident Evil games which run natively in current windows platforms.

I hate this download-only bullshit. These old Need For Speed game CDs I have here make me feel nostalgic. I miss this era of gaming.

While now kids are nostalgic for lootboxes of Overwatch 1 (it was just 9 years ago). Just kill me now. This is beyond dystopian. They never had a childhood they instantly become dopamine addicts.
